Absolutely true.

Back when I worked for a screwdriver shop, they were Intel only on white boxes*. Why? Because against their recommendation, one customer insisted on buying an AMD chip for the system they were building. The system was in and out of the shop for months. Finally they put an Intel chip in it (no other changes), and it ran just fine. To the best of my knowledge, the Sr. Tech who had that problem still will not recommend AMD chips.

*For laptops they didn't care. There was so much proprietary hardware involved, those were shipped back to the factory for repair. This line of business worked more like WalMart than what I think of as the screwdriver part of the shop.
