I've used AMD CPUs for several years now and have not had one problem, of course I use first class components, but that always pays. AMD's stategy reminds me of HP's almost 20 years ago when HP moved their MPE OS(HP3000) line of computers to their enhanced MPE/iX OS using PA-RISC. Not many people know this, but PA-RISC was originally designed for the HP3000 and almost as an after thought used it for their "new" Unix boxes. This was in 1985. HP created a very successfull "compatibility" mode stategy wherein any "binary" program created under MPE(16 bit) OS would execute exactly the same on the new MPE/iX(32 bit) OS using PA-RISC. They in a very real sense "bet the farm" on that strategy. Itanium is another story....
