- Power Grid Infrastructure, not the Devices Themselves
-
Why yes, the Japanese electrical grid is almost identical to the American infrastructure; they run on 100V instead of 120V at 50Hz or 60Hz, but that doesn't keep American devices from working on Japanese current or vice-versa. I was talking about the system, not the devices that hook into it. Japanese televisions are the same too; unlike Europe, Japan and America both use NTSC instead of PAL, so the televisions will work in both regions.
For the record, the Nintendo DS units are the same everywhere (except in China, as I stated). The only difference is the DEFAULT language the first time you boot up, and if you know even a little Japanese, you can figure out how to navigate to the "language settings" and change it to English (and if you don't know any Japanese, guy in the store can probably change it for you!). I've got an iPod Nano that I bought here too; same thing - just pick the language settings the first time you start up. It would cost too much money to make different versions for different markets, so manufacturers tend to load a generic set of software onto consumer electronics (I know that PCs don't work this way, but if you have to have one there are plenty of English-language computer resellers in places like Akihabara, or you can probably get one at a Bic Camera or Yodabashi if you need to). - Posted by: multanihl Posted on: 10/25/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
