- Developers no longer need High End PCs?

We may be developing on virtualized desktops running on sweet 16 servers - the New Age Mainframes?
Interestingly IBM, who never really thought that personal computers should be as prevalent as they are has kept its IBM Rational Software Development Platform in mainframe form. The PC form of the software doesn't take advantage of multi-processor multi-core. But the mainframe version does. I thought they would port the mainframe software to PC. Now I am thinking that developers will be ported to mainframe from PC instead.
