Not True
Sorry but the OS is not available for other hardware. When
Steve Jobs returned to the company in 1997 he stopped the
clones. No more Motorola, Power Computing or UMX.
Cloning was a disaster. It can be debated endlessly as to
whether Apple would be the dominant platform if they had
sold the OS to other companies in 1984 but the one fact is
that the cloning hurt Apple. Apple expected that the
hardware manufactures would all build cheap sub $1000
boxes and Apple would retain the $2000+ market. Users
woud upgrade to the fancy stuff after a while and bingo
Apple increses market share. Instead the clone makers
undercut Apple in the upper line stuff and worse still made
faster boexes. Why? Because they had a lower volume they
got first shot from Moto on the latest and fastest chips. My
brother in law bought a Power Computing clone because it
had the new 225 mhz 604 several moths before Apple.
