Poor marketing all round
If Sony and Microsoft were more in touch with their client base, then these types of "shortages" wouldn't exist. The point is, these machines and the market are customer driven. Each of these companies should be more concerned with providing a good product and releasing solid titles on a respectable timetable instead of trying to outsell the other company. The production loyalty should go to the customers and gamers not the corporate bottom line. If good game titles were released in a timely fashion, then it wouldn't matter what the other team was doing because your own sales would be higher than the competition. Then you'd have better games more often. Gamers are typically a loyal bunch as long as the systems are solid and the games are good and released often. Games aren't movies; we're not looking for the one "summer blockbuster" or "Holiday rush". Whatever happened to a few good titles a month? Gamers are the ones paying for all the "ambush" and "counter-ambush" marketing ploys of the manufacturers on many levels. Instead, we should be the ones reaping the benefits and joys of these systems. After all, they're built for us.
