Microsoft uses the same tactic. They had xbox 360s with "Do
not sell before" dates* on the palettes. They then claim to have
shipped out 400,000 units and were sold out. Giving the
impression that all 400,000 units were sold. Yes the did ship
400,000 and the 100,000 to 150,000 that were available for sale
were in fact sold out. Do you see something wrong with that?
Sony typically doesn't have "Do not sell before" dates on their
shipments. So who is fudging the numbers for hype?

* palette was for a local Gamestop, saw it personally.
