Some of what you are missing
These are not simple ATA disk arrays. There are multiple service processors garenteeing multiple paths to any disk and full failover incase of an issue. These are Fiber Channel disk arrays with much higher performance than connecting your server to a 10 drive Storage Works cabinet through a SCSI interface. There are additional redundancies allowing for limited self healing and a host of other capabilites you have not considered including software and other supporting infrastructure.

It is priced too high, but comparing it to your $50 - 60K example is like coparing Yugos to Ferraris.
