To answer the question
The reason nobody answers the question "how many writes" is because there is a large variance in the answer. Degradation of solid state devices is largely based on heat...so not only how many but how often. Scenario is if a Flash drive can handle 100,000 writes every five seconds it can only handle 100 writes if done every second. As you can see it is not a linear relationship so nobody wants to accept responsibility for an answer that will most likely be incorrect. The above data is exaggerated by the way. To increase the life of a Flash drive using a very sofisticated RAID type array could more than quadruple the life of the drive. Just food for thought even though I will have to agree with the HDD Mag supporters with Cost/Size/Performance curves...Mags are simply better.
