Flash RAM??
Last I checked there was no such thing as Flash RAM. Thumb drives and such (Solid state storage device) are a form of ROM noted as EEPROM (Electronically Erasable Programable Read Only Memory). What these drives do is actually erase the memory before rewriting a new string. HDD's are different in that they change polarity of isolated part of a magnetic plate. RAM is used in a system (CPU and on-board memory) basically for data bit bombardment.
The term "Flash" comes from back in the day when you had to Flash and burn chips to reprogram them. Those chips are not made3 anymore and have a photocell for the flash. Older systems will still have them (Around 1997 is when they stopped)
