No point in having 80 cores if the memory is still accessed the way it currently is (the processor cores would mostly be idle waiting for data from memory).

Yes with the current design the sweet spot for cache is 512K and having more cache doesnt not get much improvement in performance.

However before giving a processor with 80 cores how about a 16 core processor and the cache size is 1GB or more, that way the entire OS and all code would be in the cache and executing at processor speed (except when executing locked kernel code).
