Image processing, etc.
Another perspective:

Yes, OS support for large numbers of threads is a big problem. In 5 years, maybe that will be resolved; MS surely knows now that it is an issue.

What can you do with 80 cores? Lots of image processing (photo editing, video editing, etc.). These things generally parallelize well.

Or games: I'm sure game developers will find creative ways to use these threads for much more detailed character logic, physics simulations, etc.

Will grandma who only uses web and email and maybe Word need this? Probably not. Will I need it to try to find the little snippet of grandma in the terabytes of video I'm accumulating, when I'm trying to cobble together a little video show at the last minute before Thanksgiving dinner? Yes!
