Anyone remember the I740 failure?
Intel attempted to "get serious" about the graphics market before, and came out with this supposed competitor to Nvidia, and ATI, and failed miserably. Also, the graphics chip market moves much faster than the CPU market, and I doubt they can keep up with the 6 month pace that Nvidia invented. Nvidia drove everyone but ATI out of the market doing this, and the pace that Nvidia and ATI now keep will be something I doubt Intel can keep up with on their own. Not to mention that graphics chips are far more complicated than then. If anything, they would have to team up with or buy Nvidia to become competitive. The only thing that would have mode more sense is if AMD had bought Nvidia instead. The only reason I say that is because Nvidia has been the most popular chipset on the AMD platform, and that Intel had shunned Nvidia in favor of ATI on their current chipsets (965, and 975) which support ATI's Crossfire, and not Nvidia's SLI.
