Journalism
I take the point that there is a difference between fluff and actual business journalism, but at the end of the day they are all one institution lumped into our "free press".

Free press doesn't mean "free pass" and when members of that free press taint the institution of journalism, that should have consequences in terms of how we view the institution.

I don't know about the specific journalists involved in the HP case, but surely they must realize that HP using tactics that the public has seen reporters use (and seen reporters do worse) makes it hard to get oneself perceived as having been wronged.

The same goes for the generic privacy issues. IF in other facets of public life we turn a blind eye to something or allow pretexting to gain information about people to collect debts, then we as a society set the standard. Why should HP be different? Because they are a public company?

When I see the wife of an executive rat out her husband for unethical conduct... wow, then I'll get on board and slam HP.
