Data Harvesting!
This is a MUCH bigger issue than just what happened at HP. I
suggest that all who might be interested look at the October
issue of Consumer Reports - "Your Privacy For Sale".

People have actually been located and killed by stalkers who
used these "investigative" services to locate them. We are at a
point where even the witnesses protected by the government are
"at risk". Those that have valid reasons to want to protect their
privacy are unable to do so.

I worked in collections for the government 15 years ago and
even back then the smallest bit of information such as your last
name and a partial address from some point in your life could
net me your location, your assets and your history in just a few
clicks of the mouse. My point is that sadly there must be laws to
protect us from such things because there are always those that
"for a price" will sell us down the river.

What is truly sad in this matter is that the social climate that
currently exists apparently is empowering those who would
abuse to do so, even when their position is a matter of public
trust. Since the perpetrator is not leaving her position with an
apology, but simply acknowledging that it is not in the best
interest of the company that she remain at the helm (she is still
remaining on the board in a decision making capacity), we can
assume that she is not admitting that the decision was wrong...
