This is not a "lesser" issue than terrorism, from a few perspectives:
b) In one way, it is "corporate terrorism" = leveraging the fear factor against individuals.
b) Ethics tend to degenerate. Today pretexting and phone records...tomorrow black mail and safety payments?
c) If corporates and PIs can pretext, so can foreign terrorist plants. And this would not be unuseful info for them. Remember, they are the types who find ways to use any and all info and "work the system" in any way possible to advance their causes.

No, this cannot be brushed aside just because there also are other problems to be dealt with. I hope the government slaps HP around but *hard* for this.
