I'm confused...
From the many sources I've read a contractor supposedly had
orders to snoop for information about HP leaks. That person
looked into e-mails, computers and the like to find information.
The way the information was gathered has put HP Directors in
much hot water, so much so I've read our government now is
looking into this snooping activity as well.

My question is how does this fit with the RIAA? They're allowed
to snoop into peoples computers, academia servers, corporate
servers and the like but supposedly that's okay. What am I
missing here? Am I way off base with my question? If I am
completely way off base I'll apologize.

I'm just looking for someone with more insight to explain the
difference where one snooping is legal the other not. Where one
can do it surreptitiously where another cannot. Why the
government will get involved in one case but not another. Is it
possible our government gave the RIAA the right to snoop on
people?

Truly I'm not taking sides nor trolling to start a flame war. I'm
curious about the above actually.
