UC Berkeley still owed 580 Million from Microsoft
Observer reminds us that UC Berkelely won serveral law suits against Microsoft with a value of 580 million being established for stollen patented code that enables browsers to display Active-X and Java controls.

Rather than pay, Microsoft crippled Java controls with poor performance when they are implemented as Microsoft recommends through a script. We in the IT industry fought this for over a year, and won postponements from the final solution which Microsoft implemented through auto updates just a few weeks ago.

Today, Java controls require two clicks to start if implemented as they should be, instead of how Microsoft recommends which makes them run very slowly. It is software design by legals and it is continued jihad against Java, continued use of monopoly power, continued wrong doing that compells further antitrust sanctions.

Of course you can use a different browser but first you will have to get that approved by managment that too often is influenced by stock holdings or whatever to favor Microsoft only technical solutions. On ethics at Berkeley Law School...

The ethics courses at some law schools teach the ethics of a corrupt profession. The bar associations in the states the schools operate in set the curriculem and when these bar associations are overly influenced by corporate lawyers, the ethics may reflect a notion that even when the client has broke the law anything goes.

In California, things are not as bad as in Washington state. In Washington State the Corporate Lawyer, Bill Neukom being a good example, can not be disbarred even when putting witnesses on the stand that are known liers, possibley even being coached to lie.

The State Supreme Court, ignoring a pannel of Washington State Bar member recommendations, adopted this possition just a few months ago. It was probably necessary for Bill Neukom to be deamed acceptable as the new president of the American Bar Association.

Neukom hired Preston Gates and Ellis while at Microsoft, took advise from Abramoff regarding the hiring of Reed, and now is chairman of Preston Gates and Ellis as well as President of the American Bar Association.

You are disbarred for not following bar set ethics. When these ethics encourage wrong doing and the Bar Association sets curriculem at the law schools, the entire profession is corrupted. Lets point out the problem with Neukom as much as we can so that California remains a good place for resolving IT related issues.
