"I am looking for 200GB, 10,000RPM drives in laptops. I want something that will do the kind of work that I do on my desktop, not some cripple that looks like it was made in 1985. "

In 1985 most drives were 5.25 full height drives probably spinning at 3600 rpm, so current laptop drives are crippled in comparison to that how?

If you meant 1995 most desktop drives then were 3.5 with a capacity of a couple of gigabyte spinning at 4200 rpm with 7200 rpm versions going almost exclusively into servers. So in this case how are current laptop drives crippled compared to that?

The highest end notebook drives holding 80GB have areal densities that are higher than typical desktop drives so how do you propose to get more storage on them without making them physically bigger?

How about power consumption, heat and noise issues? Important considerations in a laptop.
