A phone call is a phone call
The technology should not matter. If you are a compnay offering phone service then you should have to pay the exact same taxes as Qwest, verizon or whom ever the local carrier is.

Saying Viop is not a telephone service is like saying since your voice calls are sent over a wire made from a nickle/tin aloy you should not have to pay the same taxes as a company that sends their voice calls over copper wire.

In fact I would prefer that phone calls are charged more for using the internet. Last thing we need is pressous bandwidth being taken up by wanna be phone companies.

If this goes all the way we will soon see things like... Since viop services are possibly the only phone service a person has then viop data will get some priority on the internet and eventualy common internet usages like email and web browsing will have to be placed on a much lower priority.
