Dunno if I could get used to those kind of controls . . .
. . . plus, it would look silly . . .
. . . I'd personally rather handle a physical device . . .

Head-mounted displays that beam images directly onto the retina will create images indistinguishable from real life.

Head-mounted displays already exist. Beaming images onto the retina has been experimented with. But creating images that will be indistinguishable from real life? That's pretty far away - creating images that realistic takes days or hours of rendering time currently, not to mention the time the artists take to create all of the models, textures, etc. Maybe someday, we'll have raytracers capable of 60 frames/second, but we'll need quantum leaps in computeing to pull that off. 20 years? Maybe, maybe not, we'll see.

Under the hood, Mallinson said, expect processors to become more flexible, allowing developers to reconfigure parts of the chip as necessary.
Huh? WTF does this mean? Today's chips are general-purpose - they can already do everything! This is a bunch of technical gibberish that doesn't mean anything.
Faster network connections, I can see. There's a lot of room for improvement, so I doubt the lightspeed barrier will be a problem anytime soon.

technology will allow a direct connection between the game console and the player's brain.
I'd be wary of such devices - can we say invasive computing? Besides, contolling something with a direct brain connection is harder than it sounds - your brain would probably interpret it as a new sense - imagine a person who's never been able to see being able to see again. It would be disorienting, confusing, probably hard to control. A lot of people might never be able to learn how to use such a device. - Posted by: CobraA1 Posted on: 03/26/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
