These figures show hardware revenue shipped with an OS. Given
the huge discounts on offer for OEM version of windows server it
is over represented in the shipping stats. Linux however isn't
discounted in the same way (you're buying a service
subscription) so often companies purchase after shipment.

This explains the 30%+ rise in the major Linux server
subscription revenues vs the <10% rise in hardware revenues
with Linux.

A recent campaign by MS Australia meant that you could
effectively purchase an IBM 206m server and get windows server
small business edition for free.
