Regular hard drives
that everyone buys at Best Buy are 7200 RPM. They have been that way for more than a decade. You can still only access one track at a time (one head) - but the way you grow storage is to make MORE tracks (closer spaced data).

Same speed. One track at a time. Sounds like a problem.
