You're on about 2^10 vs 10^3?

We assume you mean 1TB = 953GB.. It all depends on whether you're working in base 2 or base 10. Base 2 for useable space, Base 10 for marketability. A HDD with 1,000,000,000,000 truly has 1TB of space, and will be marketed as such. The fact that your computer sees it as less is down to the fact that computers have to work in BINARY, where 2^10 is classified as 1MB, 2^20 as 1GB and 2^30 as 1TB etc. Unless you want to rewrite binary into a new system of base numbers, just think as tht 3MB mp3 on your computer actually being 3x2^10 MB, and it will all work out in the mind, even though it already works on the computer to begin with.
