The entry-level for graphics keeps on rising.
... it states that the 965 will
have "programmable vertex, geometry, and fragment
shaders." I almost wonder if Intel isn't trying
to position themselves to compete with ATI and
NVIDIA directly.

I would imagine that Intel wants a product that can at least run a 3D desktop, e.g. Vista's Aero Glass or Suse's Xgl. Otherwise every user would probably go and buy an add-in graphics card, and not just the dedicated games-players.
