The previous drivers were written independently
by people with very little or no documentation
who had to reverse engineer the chips. It took
quite a while after a chip was released for a
driver to become available and the performance
was no where near as fast as these drivers will
be. They also were prone to break, as many
people with 810 chips found out with the X.org
6.9 and 7.0 releases.

For anyone who plays 3D video games in Linux,
this is a BIG DEAL.
