Bull carp Anton...
"This action may thus be for PR. In addition to the obvious reduction in staff made possible by assuring that Linux advocates will be able to develop their own drivers. Just a small effort to replace paid with volunteer labor. Nothing unusual for open source"

There are corporations all over the US that are laying people off left and right and it has nothing to do with Open Source but everything to do with greed. Why do you keep trying to sell the line that volunteer is bad? It isn't and it isn't the reason for people losing jobs.

If anything it has been one of the catalysts to push Microsoft into finally writing a better OS... when we will get to see it is another story.

As for Linux developing it's own drivers, why not? The damn hardware manufactures won't do it. And not all of us have issues with proprietary drivers either. I use nVidia drivers on my PC. I am using ndiswrapper to run the proprietary PCMIA wireless card drivers for my laptop.

Open source has been around a lot longer than software and it isn't going away anytime soon. No matter how hard you try to pin peoples financial woes on it. The fianancial woes come from unrealistic profit drives and unsustainable growth indexes. In order to make the bottom line now corps are having to cut benefits and jobs... all because of greed. devil
