Microsoft takes a hit
Microsoft,

Stands to lose big in Intel's move as well. MS has every intention of killing off OpenGL and forcing DirectX upon NVidia and ATI.

MS would dearly love to force any new implementations of OpenGL to be a layer sitting on top of DirectX. Not in the graphics card.

I'm not a graphics guru, but I would guess that this potentially gives open-source graphics companies the ability to bypass DirectX altogether.

Generally I'm not a big fan of Intel integrating pieces of the computer on the M/B but I believe Intel made exactly the move it should have made on this one.

It probably negates AMD's purchase of ATI and it holds MS at bay.
