Avoid Sony DVD Burners
I've tried 3 of the Sony DRU-530A DVD burners. They were all defective. The drive will not recognize a CD or DVD it has just burned. It doesn't recognize that a disc is inserted in the drive. It will not erase a CD-RW. It will give you errors when trying to burn a DVD-R. It's not even as useful as a DVD-ROM. This is despite upgrading and downgrading the firmware flashes. This is despite using Sony and other name-brand media such as TDK, Maxell, Verbatim, Memorex, etc. The DRU-530A is a brick. And Sony's tech support is non-responsive. I'm surprised this is not widely reported in the computer press. I still have the DRU-510A and that drive performs well, but if the DRU-530A is representative of Sony's "new" drive technology, watch out.
