The do the same thing
The competition is welcome but in the end you have both doing the same work so I'll take which ever is cheaper. The thing is processors aren't the only cost here. Motherboards for the processors add to that cost. Last time I checked out MOBOs I found that while an AMD processor for a desktop was significantly cheaper than and an Intel processor the motherboards for each were the opposite. Mobos that support Intel were cheaper than mobos that supported AMD. On point of note though. Even though Mobos that support Intel processors usually are cheaper that is usually because there are more of them and many are really not that great so it's kind of a "you get what you pay for" situation. That being said I'm not sure if Servers class hardware is the same.
