It is FairPlay that locks customers
This is not the case for music, as Apple has established a lock-in to their device with iTunes and the AAC format (which I'm willing to bet MS won't support on Zune--no way am I re-ripping my cd's from AAC to MP3 or WMA)

Based on your answer to my question about AAC, the lock-in that Apple has is in FairPlay, not in AAC. My question above was related to your statement that MS would never support AAC. MS will never support FairPlay but since MS supports MP3 and Apple doesn't own AAC, why do you think that Zune won't natively play AAC files? If it did, you wouldn't have to re-rip any of your CDs. Great news tic, looks like you might be able to buy the Zune after all!! wink
