NO big deal at all.... Intel at last implemented their
x86 ISA using a more intelligent datapath/pipeline. They should had already done this since the late 90s. But at that time they could only think how to maintain the interest of the public by increasing clock rate and pipeline stages.

AMD came along, they used a more intelligent pipeline design (with a reasonable # of stages) and extended the CRAPPY IA32 to the 64 bits.

Their success in desktop and server class processors forced Intel to start doing REAL work... vs the NetBURP which is a long joke (with 31 stages to be specific wink )

Now, HOW FAR to the future this will go NOONE can tell. The IA32 SHOULD had died in the 90's. but alas the bunglings of Intel with its "modern" IA64 has set the architecture back for another 10 years....

I am answering to you, because know that other people will understand what I am talking about.
