Speed differences are often not significant.
For an organization doing a large amount of processing, small differences matter. But for those users satisfied with an inexpensive computer, the need for a few more seconds to complete a task is not significant.
(Remember the discussions about the differences Mr. Ou identified?)

Obviously, a hard drive is not the same as a CPU and related hardware. Computers based on the sort of solid, dependable chip I mentioned could change hard drives as the drives became cheap enough.

The only difficulty would be applications and maybe operating systems. But a 2.0 GB device should be able to handle most tasks for years to come.

And application authors could create Chevy and Cadillac versions when the extensive low-cost market has been fully identified.

Whichever company first identifies this market which values durability over speed is going to find a very profitable niche. In fact, that "niche" may prove to be the main part of the pc market.
