- Intel has been updating the Pentium over time
-
"You mean to say that since 1993 Intel was doing NOTHING in
the desktop processors?"
If you go look at the PowerPC that came out back then you'll see
they had advances that Intel and others incorporated into their
CPUs through the years. When AltiVec (Velocity Engine or VMX)
came out in the G4 chips there was nothing like it in the Intel/
AMD chips. There is now SSE and 3DNow, with their continued
version upgrades. The 'need for speed' in the Intel chips has
finally been changed to streamlining the pipeline and getting the
support architecture to do more of the heavy lifting.
Intel hasn't needed to get with the 64-bit program because
there hasn't been anything in the Windows world to truly use it,
and the Linux crowd has had other options available. - Posted by: Mr_Dave Posted on: 07/28/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
