However improved the performance, a large part of the market will be purchasing computers based on price. The result of the Core 2 Duo will probably mean cheaper computers with older Pentium chips, and so more sales.

I think that if Intel or another company made a dependable, inexpensive chip it would hold a significant share of the market for years to come.

Performance has in many cases exceeded demand.
