trends can change...and AMD's a trend setter
AM2 chipset is DDR2 compatible launched in June\July. SLI and Crossfire technology is similar to AMD's hypertransport technology all high speed serialized processing technology with dual core and chipstacking technologies who's to say that you can only have CPU's in a stack, why not make a combo CPU-GPU-CPU-GPU four stacker on die? Sure it won't win a battle anytime soon but will it win the war?

DDR3 memory won't become adopted anytime soon with ANY chipset, but a bunch of high transport technology with integrated chipset technology in the portfolio the ideas come reality.

You don't need to combine manufacturing facilities to change the ability to make such a chipset but you do need to have fabs that can produce both products efficiently to make it work.
