It still strikes me as odd, although it must be teh case the IBM knows something about upcomming AMD chips or otherwise wouldn't side with AMD.... Or it maybe trying to squeeze Intel into some better chip prices ???

More like being able to leverage better prices from AMD. Given the price war Intel recently launched, Intel's already undercutting the price of AMD's offerings.
