How could punny SUN pull off a very radical chip in
such as short time and with the little resources they have, even though the behemoth Intel, to produce a decent processor (Itanimu-2) it took them Soooo Looooooongggg (like another looooomghhhhorrrrnnnnn nn n n ...)???? Where is Itanium-3 ? And most redicuously, Intel pretty mauch cancelled IA64 and made a U-turn to start .... "improving" their Xeons line?

I have to give it to SUN, they pulled off very decent AMD based systems and they didn't give up on their own "baby" but they kept working on their vision for a multi-core, CMT and low power processor.

Now SUN needs to improve their proc to mem designs. They should be following the lead of SGI (NUMA link 4) or even something close to what CRAY is doing with their interconnects....

I am curious to see overall Int and FP performance of the T2 and how it would stack up against Power6. I don't care about woodcrests ofcourse. Woodcrest competes nicely with Opterons but cannot go play with the big boys yet....

I guess Intel woke up and smell the donuts that excessive middle-management is not maybe the "emphasis" for a cutting-edge company... that is only god for them.

It is getting interesting again happy

sparc and solaris will die  zzz1234567890 | 07/17/06
Solaris may die, but Niagra is hot technology. Linux support is extremely  DonnieBoy | 07/17/06
There is a rather large Sparc and Solaris install based and if Sparc  michael_t | 07/17/06
I agree with you, but would add that Linux support is extremely important  DonnieBoy | 07/17/06
Yes, they do have to make Linux one of their "nativaly" supported systems  michael_t | 07/17/06
And they should give equal support to Linux on Sparc/Niagra  DonnieBoy | 07/17/06
