I've been in IT for X years too. I also understand the TCO arguement. I have not missed your point. I chose to disagree.

If I cast myself in the role of Mr Schmoe I still want a decent recovery program. I still want good productivity features, a decent build, a lower mean time to failure... why?
Because my personal time is significantly more important to me than my professional time.

I would argue that the arguement is all the more relevant to home users. Unless they want to spend their weekend fixing poor quality products.
As for Stinkpad. Have you read ANY reviews recently? If you are not afraid of paying for quality Lenovo Think is the only one to buy ... only other possible contender the MAC if you don't bat for that team there can be only one.
