- SUN's x86_64 servers (Galaxy) are ahead in performance and are pretty

solid in RAS. SUN's Ultra IV processors are underperforming vs the Power 5 and Itanium-2 but they are catching up, especially their T-2 (Niagara) processors. SUN needs to work on the Ultra side but their Opteron platforms are very solid and consume less power.
Plus, SUN has said that they are open to a really good Xeon processor (if Woodcrest turns out to be such) from Intel. I have no doubt that Woodcrest is better than their netBURP datapaths but it is dissappointing for Intel to claim a "success" what is really catching up at last with a compamy that is 1/20th of its size FINALLY after THREE years.... - Posted by: michael_t Posted on: 07/11/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
