With Sun, this is not about performance
If a company is making a decision based on benchmarks and cost, Sun will lose. Sun will lose market share? They have very little market share to lose in this space. If a customer already has IBM, HP, or Dell systems running an AMD or Intel processor, where is the incentive to go with Sun?

Companies make buying decisions based on much more than processor power. Even in Sun's heyday of 1999 and 2000, IBM was offering better price/performance than Sun. Customers were buying Sun because that is what they already had and they were comfortable with it. Solaris probably moved more hardware than the latest/greatest CPU.

Frankly, I don't see how Sun takes any market share in this space using the same processor that anyone can buy from AMD. They are up against well-established competitors. Sun will be challenged to compete on price, as their larger competition has lower costs to build each system.
Where is the incentive to take out somebody else's system and put in a Sun?

Sun's only hope is to offer a "better" product, something that differentiates them from others. Obviously it won't be the CPU, so it will have to be Solaris or something else. I don't see what Sun has to offer that would make one go with the "new kid in town" in this space.
