Good. Now let's see PERFORMANCE NUMBERS...
At last Intel managed to put two cores in the same chip which are pretty much 2 pentium-2s on the same silicon.

Why Intel shoot itself in the foot to the point that it almost competely blown it away by letting itanium-2 out to dry for THREE years, nobody can tell.

In processor 3 years, is a 1 an 1/2 generations of processors.

Duplicating the same chip to create multi-core versions is a much smaller challenge than doing eht for instance Power5 and Niagara have done: the cores share the L2 caches and this makes them true SMPs on a chip.

How could punny AMD could pull off multicore + HT already before intel is hard to explain.

Moreover, Power 6 is about to hit the marked in ACTUAL products (i.e., whole systems) by the 3rd or 4th quarter of this year. Also, the next gen Ultra chip is soon to be announced. ALso, AMD's multicore next gen chips are due out soon...

Nevertheless, performance numners from ACTUAL applications is right now WHAT matters. Intel has been only injecting rumours of "good-er" performance but NOBODY HAS published actual performance numbers.

I am reserving my oppinion until I see how the Montecito stacks up against Power6 and the next gen Opterons.

It IS getting interesting......
