How often is the processor the bottleneck anyway
I would prefer to speed hard disk access up at the same rate as CPU and memory speed has climbed or hard disk capacity has increased. I'd have a much faster machine than I do now. I only notice a problem with CPU being insufficient when doing very processor intensive tasks such as compiling.

I spend much more time waiting for files to be accessed than waiting for the CPU to do its job. If only the hard disks and the bus they where connected to where 10-20 times faster.

Then you still have to wait and wait while your OS does nothing till its extravegant timeout periods have expired waiting for networks or devices to respond.
