Clockspeed alone is the the most bogus of metrics...
JDoe,

Intel is the one who has been BSing buyers with their "clockspeed" is everything mantra (especially when it comes to their P4 based Celerons; Anandtech compared a Celeron 2.6 GHz to a $44 1.6 GHz AMD Duron a few months back and the Duron won in the majority of the benchmarks!).

Clockspeed can only be used as a comparison metric when instructions per clock cycle (IPC) are equivalent, since performance is the product of clockspeed and IPC.

AMD attempted to get the major manufacturers to back the True Performance Initiative, but since Intel benefitted the most with "greater GHz = better performance" untruth, there was no industry support and last I read, the TPI had died.

Lastly, would you brag that your product required > 33% increase in GHz to compete with your major competitor? I sure wouldn't.
