- So predictable.

Try this on for size, Ax:
1. Intel can't transition it's product line all at once. The vast majority of their chips will continue to be inferior for quite some time.
2. Even their newest chips are slower in 64-bit mode than in 32-bit mode. (As opposed to AMD chips which are faster.) This does not bode well for their servers.
3. Intel is still stuck with a lousy FSB (no HyperTransport.) Again, not good for servers.
4. Intel still hasn't got an integrated memory controler. That's why they have to dedicate so much silicon to that huge cache. Without it their performance would still suck. That, and the heat are why they needed to transition to 65nm so soon. This doesn't affect the end user -- it's Intel's problem. But it sure does affect Intel's bottom line.
What it adds up to, is that it's Intel that's still in deep ****. But at least they've taken the first step in the right direction to get out of the swamp. - Posted by: gordon@... Posted on: 06/21/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
