re: Tired of cheap!
>>Computers have become cheap for sure. Not necessarily inexpensive, just cheap. I'm tired of cheap. No wonder the IT industry is in such chaos. Chaos is cheap. Organization is not! Poor quality is cheap. Quality worth having is not! AMD has lost a lot of ground that they had worked hard to gain with this ruse. <<

Dude.. NO one is forcing you to buy these chips. You can still get the premium chips and have a nice life.

However, there are people out there who can't afford the latest and greatest, top of the line box. Nor does everyone need the latest speed demon either. They can make do with Celerons and Durons until the current crop of speed demons gets replaced by even faster hardware.

For the mundane tasks that most people use computers for these days, e-mail, web surfing, etc..., today's crop of hardware is overkill.

For what it's worth, I have no problem sticking one of these "crippled" AMD chips in a machine, if it will do the job that it will need to do. So what if it's .002 milliseconds slower because it's only got 1/2 of the cache on board. If it saves the customer money and he's happy with what he gets - WHAT is the problem?

AMD sells more chips, they stay in business. Intel loses that much more ground. Sounds good to me.
