I do not understand this policy, as I do not live in the UK. I'm kind of wondering why they don't do what the California DMV does when you haven't paid your registration: Garnish your wages for the amount owed. They do that without verifying that you even have the car any more. I know this for a fact because my car was Repossesed by GMAC a few years back and they garnished my wages for the registration fee for two years until it got straightened out. Sucked big time.
