Extend Human Intelligence Into Remote Machines
What companies should be focusing on is remote intelligent machine control rather than traditional robotics ? in cases where a high level of intelligence is required in robots or machines. In other words, the military should e.g. look into the possibility of deploying a number of tanks in extremely hazardous conditions, that are remotely controlled by soldiers in virtual reality set ups. The soldiers as a result would perceive the tanks they are controlling (and the tanks? environments) in their virtual world, and as they manipulate the tanks virtually, the tanks at the remote locations would get manipulated in a corresponding fashion. Such a system could be augmented with a remarkable visualization system in which the controlling soldiers see realistic 3D images of inside their machines, as well as all around them in the field.
