A poor synergy...
I see this as yet another attempt at being the low cost producer and that title is firmly planted in the Dell camp. (Sorry Gateway, that's just how it is.)

As the hardware in a PC is about as generic as it comes and all the OEM's buy from the same manufactures, there is very little room to compete on a price basis. That really only leaves differentiation as a means to compete and I see little to differentiate them from all the other "me too" OEMs.
