VOIP vs. Public Telephone
One of the things telephone carriers have to do is make a huge investment on the upkeep and maintenance,a nd billing, of plain old telephone quipment. In VOIP this cost is borne by the actual user. In a sense VOIP traffic is invisible to existing networks where ip traffic flows. I think it is more a matter of $$ at the phone company. I wish that the internet backbone cabling was owned by some non-profit group instead of, phone companies.
